CANTON, Ohio (December 10, 1998) - Selecting the proper mix of raw materials for electric furnaces, foundries and other operations that rely upon recycled metals is now easier and more cost effective with the use of the Alchemist Scrap Management System™ software from Ferrous Solutions, Inc.

Alchemist Scrap Management System™ provides users with the tools necessary to achieve reductions in raw material costs. Charge mixes are selected from available inventory to meet the desired molten metal chemistries. User interface modules provide the ability to constrain the model based upon other characteristics such as density and size. The use of linear programming techniques insures that the optimization model produces true least cost material selection subject to user defined constraints. A graphical user interface through the Windows operating system facilitates ease of customer use.

Historically, manufacturers seeking software solutions for raw material optimization applications were faced with the expense of developing custom software. Alternative spreadsheet based models lack the user interface required for today's modern industrial applications.
