Our process begins with raw material sampling. FSI owns and operates induction furnaces used to melt test samples. Data gathered from the sampling/testing phase is input into a database which is accessed by our Linear Program Models. Our numeric models are custom designed to reflect real world operating constraints faced by our customers. The output from our models is faxed to the scrap yard for loading.

Each blend is infinitely variable with respect to the materials and quantities used. There are typically between eight and 20 different material layers per rail car of SmartScrap(tm). Each cross-sectional slice taken from a rail car of SmartScrap(tm) represents the same not-to-exceed chemistry found in any other slice from any other rail car or group of rail cars.
